So divorce isn't green, what's the answer?

I agree with the premise of the article, divorce isn't green. However, sometimes doing what one absolutely must isn't green either. I understand that not every relationship is this way, but in the case of Domestic Violence there are few authorities (religious and secular) who would say it's better to stay in a situation where it is highly likely someone will eventually end up murdered by someone who promised to love them.
This is only one reason why people get divorced, but it is my example of why we sometimes choose to do things that aren't green.
